The Second Conference on
Issues, Aspirations, and Options for Indo-Americans in Senior Years
The second Conference on the topic is being planned now. The first was held in February 2005 in Southern California.
After considerable discussion we have decided to hold the second Conference on the East coast, New York, New Jersey/Philadelphia area. It is being planned for June or July of 2006. We are searching for an appropriate venue (suggestions welcome) that can accommodate about 125-150 people. Again, it is expected to be a two-day event held over a weekend. We don't plan to hold parallel sessions.
The purpose of the Conference is to provide 1) a forum for discussion, 2) opportunities for networking, and 3) facilitate exchange and dissemination of information.
This time we plan to include a session where our adult children will have an opportunity to participate and express their views. Also, the second Conference will hold a session on issues related to single seniors.
On a lighter side, we will devote an evening session to seniors-jokes competition (original and best heard).
Additional sessions under consideration are:
Retirement Communities in the USA and India: In operation and being planned, types, costs, services, locations etc.
Aging and life style
Medical services: issues and opportunities
Activities and opportunities in senior years: In the USA and in India.
Financial, legal issues
Government programs for seniors
Issues and experiences of living part time in India and part time in the USA
Experiences of other ethnic groups, and Indians in Europe, Africa etc.
In addition, we plan to have an Exhibition and Vendor Displays during the Conference.
We are soliciting your suggestions and ideas regarding the location and the content of the Conference. expression of your desire to participate and/or help is always welcome.
