A little about the author. Rizwana was born to a highly educated Muslim family & raised in a staunchly Gandhian atmosphere. Her great great grandfather Justice Badruddin Taiyyabji – first Indian to be appointed Chief Justice of Bombay High Court – was a daring man who succeeded in bailing out Lokmanya Tilak when he was arrested for inciting people against the British Raj.
Justice Badruddin’s grandson & granddaughter-in-law were freedom fighters who abandoned a comfortable life in Mumbai to settle in a remote village in Maharashtra in Ahmednagar district. Here they continued to serve the community & be a part of the freedom movement. This couple was Fareed & Fatima Taiyyabji. They decided to have only one child so they could devote the rest of their time to the nation. Rizwana was their first grandchild.
Born on Laxmi-poojan day, Rizwana was named Laxmi Rizwana by her grandfather. A small town girl, she studied in a Marathi medium school & later went on to graduate in English literature. While studying, she met a dashing IPS officer posted in her hometown. Both fell in love & a Hindu-Muslim marriage followed. Thus began a tumultuous & nomadic life.
In a moving narration starting from her childhood days & covering a period of 50 years, Rizwana gives us glimpses of intense relationships & disappointments; successful experiments with art, nature & food; traumas of separations from dear ones – all the agony & ecstasy life offered her. This book is very likely to haunt readers for days later.
Rizwana now lives in Pune with her husband. She free lances in interior & landscape design & creates free form embroideries for wall pieces & linen.
