WMI-Call For Volunteers

World Music Institute - Call For Volunteers

ATTENTION WORLD MUSIC LOVERS!

World Music Institute invites you to join us for our spectacular 21st season!

In the past twenty-one years, WMI presentations have grown from small gatherings in Greenwich Village into sold-out concerts at Town Hall and City Center. This, of course, would not have been possible without the help of our wonderful volunteers. This e-mail includes information about some upcoming volunteer opportunities, including:

~how to become a part of our team of Concert Volunteers,
~how to become a Box Office Assistant,
~information on becoming a member of our Community Outreach-based WMI Street Team.

If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please read ahead.

CONCERT VOLUNTEERING
Concert Volunteers are generous people who donate their time by selling CDs and WMI memberships before and after each of our concerts, as well as during intermission. This means that they arrive at the concert hall at least one hour before the scheduled show time, and stay about 45 minutes after the show has ended. Sometimes volunteers are also needed to handle the hospitality for the artists. This may include arriving at the concert hall 3 hours prior to show time to set up food and drink for the artists, and then cleaning up immediately following the show.

“Well, what are the benefits of becoming a Concert Volunteer?” you might ask. Dont worry…the time and effort of our volunteers is rewarded: if you volunteer at one of our many concerts, you get to see the show for free!

We ask that our volunteers be enthusiastic, personable, flexible, dependable, and punctual. Before becoming an official WMI Concert Volunteer, we do require that you attend our mandatory pre-season orientation for new volunteers. It will be held the week of September 12th.

If you have decided that you would like to become a part of our team of Concert Volunteers, then please respond to this e-mail with one of your own, including your full name, address and telephone number, no later than August 22nd. You will then be sent an invitation with the exact time and location of the orientation.

WMI STREET TEAM
WMI is looking for enthusiastic individuals who want to join the WMI Street Team, and help us create a buzz about our exciting concert series.

This team will help us in our grassroots marketing projects by distributing promotional materials (flyers and/or posters) for our concerts to specific stores and ethnic neighborhoods in and around New York, or by handing out flyers at non-WMI shows.

Yes, it takes a bit of walking around, but along with that comes exciting discoveries like finding the cheapest place to get the best olives or feta cheese, or finding the place to buy Indian musical instruments… and of course, for every excursion, the volunteer will get to attend one WMI show of his/her choice, provided that it is not a sold out show.

If you are interested in joining the WMI Street Team, please do not reply to this email, but send a separate message to the outreach coordinator, Vlada Tomova at vlada@worldmusicinstitute.org with your full name, address and telephone number. You will then be contacted via email or phone.

BOX OFFICE ASSISTANT
World Music Institute is looking for a Box Office Assistant to work 2 days 10am-6pm. This position will assist the Box Office Manager in the processing of ticket orders. Tasks include answering phones, updating the Access database, answering questions for members and possible work at actual concerts. This internship requires good attention to detail, excellent phone manner, a creative mind and an ability to work with constituents who require specific attention. Interns will receive one complimentary ticket to any concerts of their choice during the duration of the internship. This position is un-paid. The internship is from August 15-December 15.

If you are interested in becoming the new WMI Box Office Assistant, please respond with your resume to the box office manager, Vidya Chari at vidya@worldmusicinstitute.org

Our 21st season will be bigger and better than ever, so there is no better time to become a part of the WMI crew! We look forward to hearing from you and hope to have you on our team!
